The USB-C adapter features a compact size, allowing on-the-go travel and convenient display expandability. This USB-C to DVI-D Dual Link adapter allows devices that support DisplayPort Alternate Mode to output onto a separate display at resolutions up to 2560 x 1400 60Hz.
DisplayPort Alternate Mode leverages the features provided by USB 3.1 to allow devices to output onto a separate display. (Note that resolution and refresh rates are dependent on the source device). It does this by repurposing the wires in USB 3.1 (USB 3.1 has 4 lanes / 8 wires).
Note that your source device must have DisplayPort Alternate Mode. Such devices include the 12" Apple Macbook , Google Chromebook Pixel (certain models), along with several other devices. If you plug in a non supported device, it will not damage the device, but no video will be displayed.
